Concert Series Specials

The following concert specials are available for the September, October, March, and April Concert Series performances.

Free Ticket Program

Due to the generosity of a Friend of the Symphony, a donation has been made that allows students and their families to attend Concert Series Symphony Concerts for free. Requests for tickets must be submitted 2 weeks before the concert. Limited availability!

$5 Student Rush Tickets

15 minutes prior to the start of the concert, students may purchase up to two tickets for $5 each. Rush tickets are available at the Fine Arts Center box office with a valid student ID. Cash only.

Symphony Savvy/Meet the Music Makers

All Concert Series attendees are invited to meet Maestro Darryl One and the featured guest artists as they dive into discussions about the night’s music, historical context, the musician’s musical journey and more! Symphony Savvy is hosted before each Concert Series performance at 6:40 pm in the Fine Arts Annex, right next door to the Fine Arts Center.

Sound Off!

Students are invited to meet with VSO Maestro, Darryl One, for approximately 20 minutes following each concert to share comments about the performance, the music and the performers. Students of all ages are encouraged to join the conversation!

Join the fun with an instrument petting zoo, face painting, Children’s Discovery Museum booth, and more! Costumes are encouraged!

Group Ticket Rate
This discount is for groups of 30
or more who arrive at the Fine Arts Center on a bus.
$6 for adults; $4 for students (with the ticketing fee waived) – saves $2 each.
Bus drivers attend free.

Children’s Discovery Concert

Sergei Prokofiev’s classic work for children- a symphonic fairy tale in which each character is represented by a different orchestral instrument- becomes a dazzling theatrical and musical event. In collaboration with Victoria Ballet Theatre, the concert follows Peter as he tries to capture a menacing wolf that threatens orchestra and audience alike. Students will be introduced to the instruments of the orchestra and the Peter and the Wolf characters’ musical themes before they step into Peter’s adventure

School Reservations

  • $5 per person
  • 1 free teacher reservation for every 25 student reservations (exception for life skills classes)
  • All bus drivers attend for free
  • Once a reservation has been submitted, changes may be made to add more reservations, but not to subtract. Schools will be invoiced on the number in reservation. No refunds.

Essay Contest 2025

The Peter & the Wolf Essay Contest is more than just a wonderful cultural and artistic opportunity for students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade! Give your students a chance to win gift cards, prizes, and an opportunity for them and their families to attend a symphony concert.

In addition, your students will have another source of practice for essential writing skills and mastering TEKS.

Student Ensemble Performances

Student groups ranging from elementary school all the way through college are invited to perform at the Downtown Rhythms outdoor concert. The performances showcase a wide range of skills and talents!

Contest Guidelines

Who can participate?

Students in grades K-12 who are enrolled in public, private, or homeschool located in one of the 13 Victoria Symphony Outreach counties in the Crossroads area.

To enter, students must submit an original piece of 2-D artwork (see full contest guidelines) inspired by Richard Strauss’s work, An Alpine Symphony. Each grade level category is assigned a different excerpt of this work:

An Alpine Symphony Background

Written in 1915 by German composer, Richard Strauss, An Alpine Symphony is a tone poem— an orchestral work that tells a story or is based on a specific theme. The story depicted by An Alpine Symphony is a full day of climbing an Alpine mountain, starting with night and sunrise, and ending with sunset and the return of night again.

Awards

  • 4 concert tickets for Victoria Symphony’s April 27, 2025 concert featuring An Alpine Symphony
  • Artwork to be displayed in the Victoria Fine Arts Center lobby during April 27th concert; select pieces to be displayed on auditorium screens during the Victoria Symphony’s performance of An Alpine Symphony
  • Artwork to be published in the Victoria Advocate
$75 Hobby Lobby gift card for the purchase of art supplies
One semester of art classes will be given by the Crossroads Art House
An annual scholarship award will be given by the University of Houston – Victoria: $500 per semester for the freshman year at UHV. The total scholarship award is worth up to $1,000. In order for the winner to take advantage of this award, the student must enroll and complete the freshman year of higher education studies at UHV.
