Chicago Symphony Composer-in-Residence Mason Bates begins this concert with a zippy fanfare entitled "

Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release

" followed by the second installment of the

Cliburn Project

featuring gold-medalist Vadym Kholodenko in Brahm's

Piano Concerto #2

.  The second half brings us Mussorgsky's colorful and evocative piano piece transformed by the brilliant orchestration of French composer Maurice Ravel into this extremely popular rendition of this melodious tour-de-force! 



Pictures at an Exhibition Art Contest!
Victoria art students were invited to listen to one of the 10 movements of Pictures at an Exhibition and submit artwork that best represents the music to them. An Artist Jury Panel reviewed the submissions and released the pieces below for public vote.

Listen to the music for each movement and vote for the “People’s Choice” award by selecting your favorite picture in each category. The last day for public voting will be Saturday, April 15, 2017.  The artwork is currently on display at Children’s Discovery Museum at 1205 Sam Houston Drive and Wells Fargo Bank at 4800 N. Navarro.

Winners of the “People’s Choice” contest will have their artwork displayed in the Fine Arts Center lobby at The Victoria Symphony concert on April 29th. The Artist Jury Panel will award Best of Show from the high school division to a student artist who will receive a scholarship from the University of Houston - Victoria, up to $1,000.
